Fantastic experience! This course involved hands-on use of tools and traditional machinery, which was perfect for me, but nothing too challenging. The instructor, Kazu, is very polite and knowledgeable of the “washi” paper making craft. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for unique things to do in Tokyo.

This was a great workshop; my wife and I both loved it! The whole experience took about an hour. During it, we learned and completed every stage of the process (following the raw material harvesting and preparation, of course). At the end, we each walked out with our own set of four white postcards, which we were able to use the following day for sketching.

The washi papermaking workshop is a very nice and interesting introduction to the traditional Japanese art of paper making. After a short introduction, you are guided through the process step by step, turning Kozo/mulberry fibres into four postcards. Adding color to the paper is optional. If you like Japanese traditional crafts or paper making in particular, I highly recommend this workshop!

The class is quick and informative, and you get to bring a few hand-made souvenirs back, and the paper crafts in the store are beautiful. They were able to get me started right away, and the instructor was clear and helpful. He even took photos for me as a solo traveler!

A very nice shop with a very friendly and kind owner. You get to see a video about the history of the papermaking and then you will get step by step instructions before trying it yourself. The process is clear and quick. Really recommended spot to do something else than shopping and visiting shrines and temples 😁 Thank you very much!

Super cool and fun experience! The teacher was very nice and told us how to make the paper step by step. First, you watch the video that shows you the process of making washi paper. Then, you can fill the screen with the mulberry bark fiber pulp, which is already pre made. After that, you put it on to the plate thing and press to get rid of excess water. Finally, you put your paper on the metal heater to dry. Then, you’re done!

Interesting experience that isn't available in my country. We were taught to about the process of making Tosa and then Washi. From using the Suketa, pressing and drying process are all unique for making washi paper. Do join the workshop if you want to learn more!(:

My partner and I participated in the colour washi paper making experience at Watashino and absolutely loved our time here. Kazo-san was very friendly, knowledgeable and patient. The class is available in English so we learnt a lot and had many laughs. A fabulous way to experience and appreciate a traditional art form!

This was an awesome experience to learn about how one of the Japanese traditional paper types can be made. It's fascinating to see how local materials were combined with manual processing to make valuable and useful material. As a chemist it was really cool to see the fibers separate with the traditionally prepared solution from the roots of native plants. The staff were knowledgeable, nice, and helped us make high quality paper (for novices :-). The photo is of the sukibune (a vessel that holds the fiber solution mixture) used to disperse and separate the fibers from which they will be deposited onto a screen.

This was such an amazing experience! I’ve always wanted to make paper and this was the perfect place to do so. Kazu walked us through the history and process of washi paper with such patience and humor. Truly a once in a lifetime opportunity! I will be recommending this experience forever!
Also just a really cute shop for washi paper and stationary if you aren’t looking to do the workshop!
